Welcome

ACPGBI 2020 Annual Meeting

TIME – THOUGHTFUL, INSPIRING, MOTIVATIONAL, EXCITING
OUR TIME, YOUR TIME, LOOKING BEYOND OUR TIMES…

On behalf of the Programme Committee for ACPGBI’s 2020 Annual Meeting, we look forward to welcoming you to the vibrant city of EDINBURGH next summer for a conference packed with high quality scientific content, world class speakers and some novel twists.

The programme is inspired by TIME – THOUGHTFUL, INSPIRING, MOTIVATIONAL, EXCITING. We shall be focussing on key issues affecting OUR TIME, YOUR TIME, LOOKING BEYOND OUR TIMES…

Do watch out for our specially commissioned series of charismatic TIME TALKS for a completely different perspective on our day jobs.

Monday morning will open with ACPGBI’s new COLORECTAL FOCUS masterclass, a rolling programme over 3 years of core update topics delivered by national and international leading experts and aimed primarily at Consultants although all welcome.

As always, we shall bring you the latest BREAKING TRIALS and shall also be showcasing the best of colorectal research in our RESEARCH EXTRAVAGANZA.

The 2020 programme integrates sessions and lectures from The Dukes’ Club, The Pelvic Floor Society, the Association of Coloproctology Nurses and ACPGBI’s ever proactive Patient Liaison Group.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS will cover IBD surgery in the era of biologics, functional outcomes after rectal cancer surgery, the power of digital technology for surgical patients, and training colorectal surgeons.

There will be a strong focus on EMERGENCY GENERAL SURGERY, as ACPGBI unveils its guidelines in Emergency Colorectal Surgery.

With an eye on the Tripartite meeting in Auckland in November 2020, we shall bring you highlights from ongoing TRIPARTITE 2020 VISION collaborations.

We shall also be showcasing major ACPGBI initiatives including debate about MECHANICAL AND ORAL ANTIBIOTIC BOWEL PREPARATION, the IMPACT programme in advanced colorectal cancer and our plans for STRIVE quality improvement in IBD surgery.

The best original abstracts will have the opportunity to present in six ORAL PRESENTATION sessions, including the BJS prize session and at daily ELECTRONIC POSTER rounds.

We shall address professional challenges encountered by our Members during their working lives with a series of themed TIME WORKSHOPS considering mentorship, returning to work after a career break, burnout, financial planning and voluntary work overseas.

The EARLY YEARS CONSULTANT NETWORK will be launched to provide peer support and guidance for consultants at the start of their careers.

Do join us at the EICC next July, enjoy EDINBURGH‘s fine cultural heritage and take the opportunity to catch up with friends and colleagues from across the global community. Look forward to seeing you there!
